Getting to know me

My philosophy, as a doula, is to support birthing mothers however they desire. I can provide emotional, physical and informational support depending upon the desires of the birthing family. I want all of my clients to have a pleasing and memorable birthing experience. Your happiness regarding your childbirth is of utmost importance to me.

My name is Heather Cabaņas, CD(DONA). I have been married to my husband since 2000 and became a mother to Matthew in September 2005. During my pregnancy with Matthew, I became very interested in childbirth, specifically natural childbirth. After extensive reading and a natural childbirth course, my husband and I felt very prepared for our birth.

Although I greatly wish many things were different about the birth including having a doula there to support us, it was an amazing learning opportunity for me. I became more immersed in childbirth, and decided to become a doula to try to help other women avoid the issues I faced in childbirth. I also have changed my perspective from being a patient of a provider to a healthcare consumer. I believe that I have hired my health care practioners and I have a right to make my own care decisions with their input. I am thankful for this change in perspective.

I am a certified Birth Doula through Doulas of North America (DONA). Additional background on me, I have a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University and a M.S. in Health Care Administration from Trinity University. While I have a semi-medical background, I strongly believe that birth is a natural process, and most births do not need medical intervention.
